Erythemis simplicicollis

A common medium-sized dragonfly of all of Florida, including the Keys and Dry Tortugas. The range extends throughout the United States east of the Rockies, north into southern Ontario and Quebec, south to Costa Rica, plus the Bahamas, Cuba, Jamaica and Hispaniola.
Mature males are pale blue with a green face. Females and juvenile males are grass-green with large rectangular dorsal black spots on abdominal segments 4-6 with segments 7-9 mostly black.
Three of the four North American Erythemis species are found in the Florida peninsula.
Erythemis simplicicollis is a member of the Libellulidae - Skimmers family.
